Caution falling trees!

There is an increased risk of spontaneous fall of branches and trees throughout the National Park, where the laws of nature govern the formation and termination of trees. Enter the forest at your own risk!

Flora

According to the phytogeographical division, the flora of the Krkonoše belongs to the Central European forest flora (Hercynicum) and, together with the Rýchory, to the Sudeten flora (Sudeticum). The flora of the Hercynian mountains is significantly poorer compared to the flora of the Alpine and Carpathian mountains. However, the Krkonoše Mountains are an exception in this respect due to their important biogeographical position. In the past, the Krkonoše Mountains have repeatedly encountered Nordic, Alpine and Central European flora. The species diversity of the flora of the Krkonoše is thus the highest of all the surrounding Central European mountain ranges.

Scientists have so far described more than 1,200 species of vascular plants from the Krkonoše Mountains, of which approximately 2/3 are native, 1/3 are non-native. They have come to the Krkonoše Mountains during various stages of settlement and exploitation of the mountains. Among the notable groups are endemic species (Bohemian bellflower, Sudetic rowan, endemic subspecies rock burnet saxifrage, basalt musky saxifrage, endemic sedge, endemic subspecies of field scabiou and more than 20 species of hawkweed, such as Hieracium asperulum, Hieracium albinum, Hieracium tubulosum, Hieracium corconticum, Hieracium melanocephalum, Hieracium nigrescens, Hieracium fritzei, endemic sandwort, endemic dandelion) and glacial relics (Sudetic lousewort, cloudberrys, arctic saxifrage, Lappland willow, Lindberg bog moss)
