The Monument to Fallen Patriots was established in 1958 in the former parish building thanks to the efforts of several enthusiasts from Paseky and the willing donors of precious family heirlooms, originally as a literary memorial dedicated to the memory of the writer, violin maker and teacher's helper Věnceslav Metelka, whose personality inspired Karel Václav Rais in his novel The Fallen Patriots. Public interest led to the gradual expansion of the collections and exhibition spaces. In 1975, a new exhibition was opened, introducing visitors to the rich cultural traditions of the village. In 1979, it was supplemented by a permanent exhibition of the Krkonoše violin-making school, presenting Věnceslav Metelka as the founder and Paseky as the cradle of violin-making. The unique collection of musical instruments includes the works of the first Paseky violin makers and their pupils up to the present-day violin makers from the famous Pilař and Špidlen families.
In 2005, the exhibition was rebuilt to provide deeper and richer information on the history, social life, trades, crafts and industry of the village from the 19th to the mid-20th century. In addition to a demonstration of the weaver's craft on two hand looms, it is still possible to see into the secrets of a wood-shaping workshop equipped with a woodworking lathe and a set of tools from the late 19th century. A moving nativity scene by the Škrabálek brothers from the early 20th century is a testament to folk art.
In 2017 and 2018, the building was extensively renovated and the entire exhibition was modernised. The Project titled Renovation of the Monument of the Fallen Patriots in Paseky nad Jizerou was supported by the Integrated Regional Operational Programme (IROP) and the KRNAP Management was awarded 3rd place in the Gloria Musealis Award competition in the category of Museum Achievement of the Year 2018.
The village of Paseky nad Jizerou is a partner to the Monument of the Fallen Patriots.
