Caution falling trees!

There is an increased risk of spontaneous fall of branches and trees throughout the National Park, where the laws of nature govern the formation and termination of trees. Enter the forest at your own risk!

Today, however, nothing is produced here any more; the last 60,000 shingles were used for the roof of the old Labská bouda in 1934. The granite house is now one of the exhibitions of the Krkonoše Museums and is open to everyone interested in forestry and hunting, whether they want to learn about little-known and still current fields of human activity or just spend a pleasant moment in the cold weather.

Deep forests cover a large part of the Krkonoše National Park and their care costs our foresters a lot of effort. The exhibition showcases how the forest is cultivated, but also how and why the timber is harvested there. Wildlife is an integral part of the Krkonoše forests. They need to be properly cared for so that they can thrive, but at the same time not cause excessive damage to the forest stands. In our exhibition, you can see with your own eyes our wintering enclosure1) and the diverse fauna of the forests. Within the entire exposition, you can count 32 stuffed animals, including deer, roe deer and wild boar.

Not only for those interested in history, there is a working model of a splash dam – a device that was built in the Krkonoše Mountains from the 16th century to float harvested timber down the water to lower elevations. In our mini-cinema, you can enjoy breathtaking images of the Krkonoše forests and mountain massifs in a series of several short films.
